Sustainability

CIM holds Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards as important criteria to consider in analyzing investments and conducting property operations.  To reaffirm CIM’s commitment to responsible investments, in 2017 CIM joined the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investing (UNPRI), an international network of investor signatories that work together to understand investment implications of ESG factors.  CIM, along with other investor signatories, observe a set of six principles for responsible investment, which offer possible actions for incorporating ESG factors into investment practice.

CIM also participates in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) assessment.  Since 2012, CIM has utilized the GRESB assessment as a tool to address CIM’s ESG practices and to measure and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including benchmarking energy, water, and waste management for its assets, striving to achieve efficiency improvements and operate properties to energy efficiency standards.  CIM complies with local benchmarking ordinances and endeavors to certify its assets to Energy Star® and to LEED green building ratings.  The firm maintains a Sustainability Task Force to steer the direction of these sustainability initiatives and tasks its Property Managers to engage with tenants and the surrounding communities in sustainability practices.  In 2016, CIM became a voluntary partner with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program.
