The Director Payroll will be responsible for shaping the overall strategic vision for the payroll department, as well as leading the day-to-day operations which include supporting international expansion efforts and overseeing payroll operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building scalable business processes for our payroll department and ensuring our internal control environment is effective. You will also play a key role in the implementation and optimization of systems/processes.
Essential Functions:Provide strategic leadership for Payroll operations while measuring and monitoring the effectiveness and efficiencies of the services providedHire, manage, train, and develop a team of payroll professionalsOwn and manage relationships with external payroll service providersOversee payroll operations, including ensuring accurate and efficient multi-state payroll processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.Ensure compliance with US and foreign securities regulations and tax requirements, and month-end, quarter-end and year-end close proceduresEnsure all payroll related tax filings are completed timely and accurately, including the creation of new accounts with various federal and state agencies as required; Work with tax agencies and payroll service providers to resolve tax issuesPartner with the Compensation, Benefits & Human Resources teams to manage Incentive compensation processing in payrollPartner with the wider Accounting, Finance, Tax and Legal teams to provide support, communication and accurate information as required or requested.Identify recommendations to scale processes to enhance payroll operational efficiency including the design and implementation of internal controls and maintain payroll policies and proceduresStreamline and document payroll proceduresAudit payroll transactions to ensure all amounts and payment dates are accurateEnsures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesSupervise and coordinate activities of payroll staff, including but not limited to, assigning work, setting performance expectations, providing performance feedback, coaching and conducting annual performance reviews.
Education/Experience Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance / Accounting, or related discipline 10+ years of experience in payroll operations, operating at a global, multi-national companyCertified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferredStrong experience of SAAS payroll solutionsUKG Pro (UltiPro) experience requiredExpert knowledge of US federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including payroll tax, reporting, and required filingsFamiliarity with international payroll and compliance requirementsStrong project management experience including the ability to manage project plans, dependencies, critical path activities and milestonesExperience transforming a payroll function to maximize automation, scalability and cost effectivenessExcels in hyper-growth environments; versatile, capable of managing multiple projects and taskAble to communicate effectively with cross-functional business partners, internal/external stakeholders and various levels of management
