Bringing Families Together in the Bay Area

Throughout our 25-year history, CIM has supported communities and made a positive impact for families by providing places to work, live, shop and enjoy being together. One such example is Jack London Square, a CIM project in Oakland, CA, that has become a vibrant hub for the latest dining and entertainment options as well as events and outdoor recreation.

Jack London Square

After experiencing major economic challenges during the 1990s and early 2000s, the city launched a large-scale initiative for redevelopment and infrastructure improvements. Oakland’s close proximity to San Francisco, as well as its strong base of diverse employers were just a few reasons CIM identified Oakland as a qualified community. CIM began acquiring assets in Oakland in 2007, and to date, CIM has owned and operated 14 assets across Oakland totaling almost 4 million square feet.

CIM acquired Jack London Square in 2016, recognizing the potential to bring new residences and destinations to serve the local community.

Jack London Square Case Study

Learn how we helped transform a historic Oakland seaport into a premier community attraction.

Originally developed in the 1970s, Jack London Square was named for the author Jack London, who lived near the historic waterfront location. The mixed-use destination has become one of Oakland’s most identifiable landmarks and a premier spot for residents and their families to eat, play and relax. Some of Jack London Square’s attractions include a water recreation, an E-Sports arena, movie theater, pop-up shops, a variety of restaurants, and more. The dining and entertainment destination can be accessed by boat, car or train.

Jack London Square

A symbol of the city’s history as a seaport, Jack London Square is planned to ultimately include a 250-room hotel, two residential towers – Channel House is currently under construction – and a 40,000-square-foot food hall, all of which will add to the complementary mix of offerings that cater to the needs of residents and visitors. With over 60 events annually including a weekly farmers market, harbor tours and pop-up shops, this project has become a central gathering place for the Oakland community.

Jack London Square is just one of our many projects in Oakland that have supported the transformation of the area and is another example of how CIM is creating value and enhancing communities.
